His name was given to him as he truly was a lucky boy on several occasions. Walking one day in Dubai near our villa I noticed a very skinny dog tied to a tree on a very short rope crouching in his faeces and with no food, water or shade. I was devastated! I spoke to the owner, a young arrogant male that was obviously using this dog and many others for illegal caged dog fights, but this dog was so sick and skinny so of no use to him anymore. The young local had been reported before to the Municipality, as we found out from one of the neighbours. We gave him water and food and noticed he had 100’s of ticks festering all over him. The doggie was not doing well so we asked if we could take him to the hospital. We took him and first bathed him and picked all the ticks off. He then collapsed and we rushed him to hospital. His diagnosis was grim and the vet said they will probably need to do a blood transfusion.
We agreed to whatever was necessary to save his life. The young local who had the dog decided to call the police and municipality on us and falsely claim we had taken the dog without his permission. The police questioned us on how we could go on private property and take this dog which was illegal. Luckily for us we were one step ahead and had asked one of the cool local neighbours to witness us talking to the young man and then taking the dog to the hospital. He came forward and told the police that the young man was lying that he had given us permission to take the dog. The doggie responded well to the antibiotics and after a week was home with us. He was the most extraordinary spirit and brought us so much joy. We then had to deal with the municipality and take him there and they wanted to confiscate him and euthanize him as they said he was a pit bull. We said he was not a pit bull, he was a Stafi. He had a microchip with no name and we argued that if he was a pit bull he would not be able to have a microchip as it is illegal to own a pitbull in the UAE. He indeed was a Stafil. The municipality allowed us to take him home where we named him LUCKY as he really was lucky to be alive. 4 years later Lucky passed away quietly in his sleep on XXXXX surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He died of heart disease . He will always be remembered.
